The 1965 Ford Mustang, also known as the first generation of the Mustang, is considered one of the most iconic and beloved American cars of all time. Ford introduced it in April 1964 as a 1965 model, and it quickly gained consumer popularity.
They were designed to be sporty and affordable cars that appealed to a wide range of potential buyers. They came in three body styles: Coupe, Convertible, and Fastback, and offered a variety of engines and options to suit different preferences. The base model came with a 170 cubic inch inline-six engine, but buyers could also choose from a range of V8 engines for increased performance up to the high-performance Shelby GT350 model.
Shelby GT350 Mustangs were the ultimate high-performance version of the ’65 Mustang produced by Carroll Shelby’s Shelby American. They were designed to be a more track-focused variant of the standard Mustang and built to compete in SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) road racing events.
GT350s featured a modified version of Ford’s 289 cubic inch V8 engine, rated at 306HP. They also had a four-speed manual transmission, heavy-duty suspension, and upgraded brakes. The car’s distinctive blue racing stripe over the Wimbledon White paint job gave it a unique and aggressive look. Only 562 units of the Mustang Shelby GT350 were produced in 1965, making it a rare and highly sought-after collector’s item today. The GT350 was a successful racing car, winning several championships and establishing its reputation as a performance car.
This 1965 Ford Mustang Custom Coupe takes inspiration from the GT350 Fastback (stay tuned, as a ’65 Fastback Four-Speed Tribute is also coming in that would make a very cool vintage racecar).
The Custom ’65 Coupe has a new coat of Wimbledon White paint with Guardsman Blue Shelby stripes, a 289 CID V8 engine, an Automatic Transmission, 17″ Shelby Wheels, Shelby Drop Suspension, a Carroll Shelby-signed Glovebox, Dual Exhaust, Upgraded Tubular Control Arms, and more.
